Temple Israel provides education and programs for all ages, pre-school to teens!
Roots and Branches is our early childhood program for families, offering a monthly (or so) series of events to celebrate Shabbat and other Jewish holidays and traditions. Roots and Branches events are listed on our calendar and are open to everyone. We are grateful the the Harold Grinspoon Foundation for its generous support of this program.
In our Sunday morning Hebrew School program for grades K-6, children develop Hebrew reading and service participation, with an emphasis on self-paced learning and individual attention. The children bake for Shabbat and holidays, have a variety of community service and creative activities, and build a Jewish community. Rabbi Andrea, musician and Yiddishist Yosl Kurland and other community gems are frequent visitors on Sunday.
The class meets on Sunday mornings. Master teacher Rhonda Wainshillbaum instructs, aided by Sarah Bracha Close.
Click here for our education registration form. Please note that Families enrolling their children in the Hebrew school program must be members of Temple Israel; click here for our membership application.
The Pre-Bar and Bat Mitzvah Program meets on Thursdays between 4 and 5:30. Students work at their own level in Hebrew studies and prayer book skills; and then work together on topics in Torah and Jewish values. Rabbi Andrea instructs.
Families enrolling their children in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah program must be members of Temple Israel.
Our Teen program meets on Sunday mornings for student directed activities, such as discussions, movies and social action projects. Zora Berman is the able and outgoing youth worker.
All ages are welcome for First Fridays - which are family friendly (pizza dinner and shabbat songs) and Saturday morning services, at which we provide childcare.
Temple Israel maintains dedicated distribution lists for our pre-school and teen meetings. Call the Temple Israel Office at 413-773-5884 to join a list or inquire about participating in our programs.
