Kabbalat Shabbat with Midwood

November 22, 2021 by office-team

Join us for a musical Kabbalat Shabbat with Rabbi Andrea and the band Midwood. This event will be held both in person and virtually on Zoom. Register to receive the Zoom link here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAlde6trzgtEtKSvGrYJRYql4nJV0x_1HxB

Space is limited, so if you plan to attend in person, please RSVP to [email protected] In person participants are required to be vaccinated and masked. Please bring proof of vaccination.

Led by violinist Jake Shulman-Ment, Midwood is a contemporary klezmer/rock celebration of freedom and the Jewish tradition of wandering and migration. This new supergroup, featuring some of the most exciting young performers on the international world music stage, seamlessly traverses borders through original compositions, expansive improvisations on traditional melodies, and heart-wrenching re-imaginings of Yiddish folk songs.

All are welcome to join this service at no cost. Donations to support this and other TIG programs are much appreciated and can be made online at our payment page.

Midwood is:

Jake Shulman-Ment, violin
Midwood bandleader and violinist, Jake is at the international forefront of his generation performing, teaching, researching, and composing klezmer and Yiddish music. His virtuosic playing also extends to Hungarian and Romanian folk music, classical, and beyond.

Richie Barshay, drums
Dazzlingly versatile, sensitive, and creative, Richie’s rhythmic world enjoys an expansive palette. He has toured with the Klezmatics, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and many other groundbreaking artists.

Yoshie Fruchter, guitar
Yoshie’s unique blend of rock, jazz, experimental and jewish styles ties together the Midwood sound, with one foot in traditional Jewish roots, and the other constantly exploring. He is one of New York’s most in-demand guitarists.

Funding for this program was provided by the Jewish Endowment Foundation of Western Massachusetts
