The Shmita Committee (aka The Sustainability Group) offers programs having to do with community resilience, food systems, and deep ecology as it is described and nurtured by Jewish text and traditions.
From our mission statement:
Guided by Judaism's ancient ecological and economic teachings of Shmita, our group seeks to strengthen community resilience through educational programming, earth-based holiday celebrations and social action. Shmita/Sustainablility includes concepts of social, environmental and economic justice and repair.
We lead outdoor services and explorations; offer a class or program on shmita concepts; educate ourselves and others about food preservation methods and; work with our neighbors to assess our food production capacity and general resilience.
