Shabbat Shalaym: A Country Shabbos

A new custom of traditional erev Shabbos (Friday evening) services and dinners at Temple Israel of Greenfield. The evening begin with a short service, about 45 minutes, followed by a potluck dairy/vegetarian dinner. The Shabbos observance will continue during the meal with kiddush, d'var Torah with discussion, singing of nigunim (wordless tunes) zmires (Shabbos songs) and Yiddish songs, and a short version of benching (blessings after eating).
