Queer Eye for Torah – A Fundraiser for Lander-Grinspoon Academy
Thursday, June 16 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Join Rabbi Deb Kolodny, Executive Director of LGA and learn cutting edge, affirming, and even delightful Torah that reflects a positive, compassionate and at times revolutionary take on gender identity and sexual orientation diversity.
Come and learn about:
- A prayer that affirms bisexuality in our Friday night liturgy!
- A reading of Torah texts used to reject and harm LGBTQI+ people for millennia that can and should be read in affirming ways–using classical tools of text study!
- Talmud texts that neutrally describe and accept 6 different gender identities–all the way back in the 3rd to 5th centuries!!
- A vision of a gender neutral deity that can be seen plainly in the basic language of Torah (no interpretation necessary!
This workshop will be a fundraiser for LGA, the only pluralistic Jewish Day School in Western Massachusetts. LGA fills a critical niche in the Jewish landscape, and its social justice values and deeply ethical, joyful and creative approach to Jewish education make it perfectly aligned with Temple Israel.
The workshop will be in-person, zoom broadcast and recorded. Minimum suggested donation is $18 and people are encouraged to give as much as they can ($36, $54, $100, $180, $360, $540) to help ensure that this jewel of a school can continue to say YES to everyone who wants to attend-including the 50% of students who receive some level of financial aid.
