National Conversation on Race and Reparations: A Jewish Imperative
Sunday, April 11, 2021 - 10:00am
Join us for a talk back from Jeff Gold, one of the organizers of a conversation on reparations, culled in part from Jewish teachings on justice and economics. This presentation is part of an on-going series of conversations on living into our Jewish values and allying with movements for civil repair.
Our speaker, Jeffrey Gold is a retired psychologist and member of the Jewish Community of Amherst (JCA). Subsequent to the George Floyd murder in the summer of 2020, the Tzedek Racial Justice Initiative was formed at the JCA. Along with Rabbi Devorah Jacobson, Jeff co-chairs the Reparations sub-committee as part of that initiative. We have engaged in intense study and discussion over this period of time, and facilitated a JCA-wide Open Forum on Reparations, as well as a five-part series called "The Stolen Beam Series" hosted by the JCA. As of this writing, the team also considering a number of different external projects in relation to Reparations for Black Americans and the much-needed conversation about race in this country.
