A program hosted by Jewish Activists for Immigration Justice, supported by Temple Israel:
The Plight of Haitian Immigrants: How Racism Works to Undermine an Immigration System Already in Crisis
An event of speakers, poets, music and video. People of ALL or NO faiths are welcome to participate in this event. We are taking stock of the current disastrous state of asylum seekers looking for safety in our country. At this online event, we will focus particularly on the plight of Haitian asylum seekers.
Speakers will discuss:
- The terrible conditions in Haiti where people are fleeing what is described as a state of war.
- Personal stories of families recently arrived in our area of Western Massachusetts
- How anti-Black racism targets these people for even worse treatment than happens for all asylum seekers.
We will also update our communities about the humanitarian crisis at our Southern border after the ending of Title 42, and remember the particular ways that Jewish history and teachings compel us to stand up for those fleeing persecution.
