Hunger Awareness Week Apple Gleaning (harvest for donation)
Monday, September 21, 2020 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Shutesbury MA Apple Orchard
We invite you (all ages) to a special apple glean at a family orchard in Shutesbury. Please RSVP to receive the exact location.
We'll harvest apples (perfect and not quite perfect). Our intention is to donate the pristine ones to organizations that help alleviate hunger in our area. We'll have suggested places to receive the food, but you are welcome to do research in your own towns and donate thru your local agencies.
Gleaners are welcome to take home some apples as well, for eating or preserving. Temple Israel owns 3 canners which can be loaned out for your home projects.
This week is a time of special attention to acts of kindness - the days between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur. It is also Hunger Awareness Week in Franklin County. TI is coordinating special food related mitzvah opportunities with Hunger Awareness organizers and Rachel's Table.
Rain date is Tuesday September 22. Dress for the weather.
Bring your own PPE. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Bring boxes and bags for the apples you plan to donate and/or take home.
RSVP here for the orchard location.
