Havdallah Meet Up – Can Tikkun Olam Save the World?

Saturday, April 15 @ 6:00 am 7:00 pm

Weaving community in the cold dark months, we are taking advantage of the skills and curiosities of Temple Israel community for a series of Havdalah Meet-ups.

TIKKUN OLAM refers to any activity that improves the world, bringing it closer to the harmonious state for which it was created.  It implies that while the world is innately good, its Creator purposely left room for us to improve it, to repair it, to pursue social justice. It is a directed toward “mending the world.”  In Hebrew we say Tzedakah (justice and righteousness) and G’milat hasadim (acts of loving kindness) when referring to how we envision and carry out TIKKUN OLAM.

In this Havdallah Meet-Up we will discuss TIKKUN OLAM and clarify the Kabbalistic understanding of “giving in order receive” and contrast it with “receiving in order to give,”  the great conundrum of Torah.

Marvin has a PHD in political philosophy and has studied with a master Kabbalist for the last three years.

Havdallah Meet Ups are free and open to the public. Donations in support of cultural programs are welcome! This is a hybrid event. Watch for your How To Participate emails for zoom information.
