We are hiring!

Shomrei Adamah Educators (2 positions)

Dates: 5 week series on Thursday mornings 9-11:30am from July 13- August 10

Wages: $30/hr for 6 hours a week of work for the 5 week series

Point People: Shomrei Adamah Program Coordinator, Family Education Coordinator, and Education Committee

Location: Woolman Hill Retreat Center in Deerfield

About the Program: This will be the 3nd year Temple Israel Greenfield runs an outdoor education program for kids under 10 yo, called Shomrei Adamah (Hebrew for ‘keepers of the earth’). This year we will be located at Woolman Hill in Deerfield where we’ll explore the relationship between Jewish tradition and the land where we live. Shomrei Adamah is an outdoor education program that connects kids and their parents to Jewish tradition and culture through land-based activities, including nature play, introduction to Hebrew words and blessings, learning and participating in land stewardship and growing food. We provide a gentle, creative and engaging format to the morning. Caregivers stay with kids during the program.

About the Position: We are looking for 2 educators who have experience working outdoors with kids. Educators will be expected to develop activities and structure each week, creating a fun and engaging environment. There’s an option for one or both educators to also take on the role of Program Coordinator (more information below).

  • Attend 3-4 meetings in the spring with the Shomrei Adamah Program Coordinator and Temple Israel Family Education Coordinator; potentially additional short meetings during the program
  • Prepare and purchase supplies before each Thursday morning program
  • Coordinate with Woolman Hill contacts with questions or concerns regarding our weekly rental
  • Check weather and adapt activities to the weather
  • Purchase snacks for the program that takes into account participants’ food allergies
  • Reference registration for up to date information about each week’s participants
  • Submit invoices and receipts for reimbursements each week

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience leading and teaching in outdoor settings
  • Some familiarity with Judaism and Jewish tradition
  • Demonstrate kindness and eagerness to engage with kids and families
  • Enthusiasm for working with people of diverse backgrounds including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion
  • Ability to problem solve, especially outdoors in all kinds of weather

Applicants for the Educator positions are also invited to apply for the role of the Shomrei Adamah Program Coordinator. The role of the Program Coordinator is to help with the planning, promotion, registration and general logistics of the program. This role would begin in May and go through August. The rate is $30/hr for roughly 25 hours of work. This position can be done remotely; requires excellent verbal and written communication skills; an ability to identify tasks and take initiative; and computer skills ideally Mailchimp, Canva and Google Drive, although learning on the job can happen too!

How to Apply: Submit your resume and cover letter to [email protected].
